      Hello Doug,

Yes, there is a damper for primary air control near the bottom of the fuel chamber. It’s somewhat visible in the photograph of the unit. Additionally, air intake can be controlled by varied operating configurations of the unit.

Thanks for your feedback, and Dr. Anderson asked me to mention that he would enjoy seeing you at the upcoming Labor Day weekend Stove Camp in Summertown, Tennessee.

      Cheers,

Good question. While we cannot commit to a date at this time, we hope to have materials available as a “Developer’s Kit” sometime soon.

Is the stove too powerful for cooking rice or beans over a longer cooking time? I am interested in a wood stove that will simmer for an hour or longer for beans or be at low heat for about 30 minutes for rice.

There are at least three issues to answer your question. One is the diameter of the fuel cylinder. Instead of being about 7 inches, it could be smaller, even only 4 inches. That would significantly reduce the amount of heat. This can be accomplished with an insert into the full-size fuel chamber.

Second, Quad stoves can be constructed with greater height of the fuel chamber (and the rest of the stove). This will give more time.

Third, consider using the TChar variation of TLUD stoves. In them the charcoal will give low heat for a long time.

I would like to purchase the Anderson Champion but can not find one Anwhere. For instance Amazon has a few biomass burners that I could purchase and I’m tempted but I want the Anderson strictly for making biochar not as a cooking stove. Please advise. I do not want to construct a stove I want to make biochar.

    Sincerely,

      Hello Debra,

The “Champion” TLUD gasifier is sold in India, Australia, and the USA. In America, please check the Bookstore of the Biomass Energy Foundation website at http://www.biomassenergyfndn.org (Note: If you are making biochar and not cooking, you do not need the tripod pot-stand, but could place a simple cylinder as the riser on top of the concentrator lid.) If you cannot obtain it there, please write to me directly at psanders@ilstu.edu

      Sincerely,
      Dr TLUD
